Time after time I see people trying to lift  too much weight as they can which results in minimal gain after weeks of effort. Instead of trying to push heavy weights, try decreasing the weight and lowering it slower. Usually 3 seconds is enough as it will force your muscles to work harder and will stimulate more growth.

I am a culprit of static stretching for 20-30minutes before I hit the football field. I was always able to jump high or run fast before my static strengthening, but I had a firm belief that it was just mental. Now UK scientists have proven that static stretching before exercise can decrease the amount of force you can apply up to 15minutes after. So the best way to stretch is dynamically,so you do not hold your stretches. Static Stretching does still have some advantages so make sure you do it after your workouts, to keep your flexibility up.
